Make Your Email Signature Work For You

When you originally created your email signature, you didn’t give it much thought, did you? Most people don’t. A name, some numbers, an email address and it’s done, right?

But there’s some hidden potential in that little chunk of text. Here are some ways you can unlock it.

  1. Drive prospects to your website. This sounds SO obvious… but many agents forget to add a link to their website in their email signatures! And believe it or not, some people prefer to visit your site before they give you a call, or hit the “reply” button.

Your website is the perfect place to send people who want to learn a little more about you, the services you offer and the products you have.

Even if you’ve included it elsewhere in your email, make sure you put your website address in the signature so prospects don’t miss it.
  2. Make an offer. If your website has quoting built-in, you can add a powerful offer to your signature. Link your call to action to your quote engine page.

    For example:
Ready to compare plans? Get instant online quotes here.
  3. Build confidence. With so much spam floating around the internet, you’ve got to do all you can to come across as a trustworthy person to do business with.

A powerful way of doing that is to let someone else sing your praises. Adding a testimonial below your contact information builds the reader’s confidence in you. Choose the testimonial that best sums up the reason why a new prospect would want to work with you. If it’s over three lines long, edit it down to a one or two line snippet.

If you don’t have a testimonial to use, you can also build trust by adding a quick one- to-two sentence “mission statement”. The purpose of this is also to present the benefits of doing business with you — in as few words as possible.

    For example:
ABC Agency offers instant online quotes and professional advice to match you with the best health plan available.
  4. Plant the seed for referrals. Referring business to you is not second nature for your customers. They need a little nudging. Your email signature is a great place to give them that nudge.

    Try something like:
My favorite “thank you” is when you think of me when recommending an insurance agent to friends and family.

Utilizing your email signature is such a simple little thing… so don’t forget to put it to work for you!
