Position Overview
Norvax, Inc. is a leading developer of Web-based sales and online
insurance marketing tools for the health insurance industry, helping
insurance brokers, agents and carriers connect with customers
and transact business more efficiently. From insurance websites
to insurance software and lead management tools, the Norvax product
suite lets insurance agents increase sales, cut administrative
time and reduce expenses.
Norvax is looking for a Senior Architect who will be responsible for designing and overseeing the development of all products in the Norvax portfolio. This person is responsible for choosing tools and frameworks to assist in product development, for helping define policies and procedures to make the department more efficient, and for helping to grow the products and staff.
Responsibilities
- Work with systems engineers and product managers to flesh out product requirements
- Creating high-level designs for new products, features, and major enhancements
- Providing high-level development estimates of the new products and features
- Researching cutting-edge development tools, frameworks, and best practices to make strategic technical decisions for the department
- Hiring and training new developers for various product teams
- Managing and mentoring Architects and Senior Systems Analysts
- Understanding the business and making key business decisions and suggestions based on experience and feedback from the development team
- Prototyping new products and features to provide a proof of concept solution
- Defining and enforcing coding standards and best practices for the department
- Performing thorough code reviews
- Occasional travel to meet with current and prospective customers
- Taking accountability for the performance and reliability of Norvax products
- Making sure that all code is well-written, well-documented, and well-tested
- Communicating project and development status
Job Specifications
- At least 8 years of software development experience
- At least 5 years of Java development experience
- Experience installing, configuring, and tuning Java application servers
- At least 3 years of experience running application servers in a production Linux environment
- Experience working in a small- to mid-size company with an agile development process
- Experience managing and reviewing a team of developers
- Experience setting up and maintaining tools and applications needed for a development department (IDE, issue management system, continuous # integration system, version control system, etc.)
- Experience gathering requirements and performing basic project planning
- Experience meeting with clients and assisting in the sales process
